Amped, 2018

Cypress, Alton-Darby Campus, OH.

Project Overview

Acrylic on cinefoil, paper, PVC conduit, cardboard, wood, construction fencing, rope, light

Photographed at Cypress Church-Alton Darby Campus, Galloway, OH.

Materials for Amped were sponsored by Cypress Church Kid’s Ministry as an interactive visual response to the summer 2018 series by the same name. This project was made possible by Angie Young, Director of Cypress Kids.

Responding to Sound

The lights for Amped react to sound vibrations by changing colors. Clapping, stomping, or loud music cause a change in hue with every beat. This makes for a more integrated audience experience—particularly when the audience is comprised of mostly children, as in this case. The content of programming becomes more exciting when viewers are able to interact with visual stimuli.

As these compositions whirl up the walls and ceilings, viewers are permitted to sink deeper into the forms, while also experiencing their ferocity of size.
