Project Overview

Construction cones, paint, fencing, conduit, paper

Slide was installed as a pop-up project during the Covid-19 pandemic, April 2020. This piece, along with Climb, was created during a livestream event in which viewers could watch and take part in the process while remaining quarantined. The social interaction through technology became as important as the installation itself, bringing people together through the live creation of a work of art by allowing viewers to ask questions in real time and have input on the placement of individual components.

Movement

A vertical arrangement of lines within the work suggests the flow of children typically seen going up and down the slide. Components gathered at the top allude to the chaos of bodies crowded there on a normal day, blissfully awaiting a turn to glide down the structure into a sea of woodchips. The artwork becomes a visual plug for the empty space caused by the global pandemic—a presence of static play in the absence of real play.
