This piece was part of a solo exhibition titled Malleable Matrices, a culmination of works created during a year-long artist residency at The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH. Samantha Parker Salazar was selected to be the 2014-15 John Fergus Family Post-MFA Fellow in Visual Arts at OSU the same year she graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. During her time at OSU, Salazar was a visiting instructor in printmaking—teaching classes in intaglio, serigraphy, and lithography. Past recipients of this prestigious award include artists Dani Levanthal, Jessika Edgar, Hannah Walsh, and Andres Felipe Castelblanco Olaya, among others.

Cross-Disciplinary Research

With the help of Dr. Angelika Nelson and her assistants, Anna Smith and Emily Archibald, the images printed on vinyl that can be seen on the floor were gathered from tetrapod specimens at The Ohio State University’s Museum of Biodiversity. The photographs were digitally-manipulated (stretched, distorted, colored) to the point of a total abstraction of flesh. These same images were utilized in a smaller format for the amorphous components attached to the surrounding walls.
